‘Now it is up to UN agencies, civil society, media professionals and, most importantly, the numerous states that have endorsed the UN Human Rights Council resolution on the safety of journalists, to actively show their commitment to this important cause.’

This joint article by Austria’s foreign minister Michael Spindelegger and Alison Bethel McKenzie, executive director of the International Press Institute, on the UN’s ambitious plan  to counter the alarming increase in journalists’ killings in 2012, was syndicated in the New Zealand Herald and other newspapers.
