The new book entitled “A Mission to inform: Journalists at risk speak out“, authored Prof. Marilyn Clark from the University of Malta and William Horsley, International Director of the Centre for Freedom of the Media, is based on first-hand in-depth interviews with 20 journalists from 18 Council of Europe member states, and narrates their experiences of persecution.
Interviewees include the late Daphne Caruana Galizia, Can Dundar, Khadija Ismayilova, Eduard Perrin and others; and the report makes strong recommendations for extra actions to protect journalists and free independent media. The recommendations to states will, it is hoped, provide a new rationale and impetus for protecting journalists more effectively from physical and legal attacks, exclusion and online harassment, and the impact of climates of impunity when journalists are attacked or murdered.
The book was launched on 14 October 2020 during a Council of Europe event.
