The Journalism Safety Research Network (JSRN) launches a new Research Repository with research presented during the 2020 World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) Academic Conference in The Hague. The conference was organised by UNESCO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and Leiden University.

The repository consists of papers and poster presentations alongside video recordings of the conference.

The theme of the 2020 conference was ‘Safety of Journalists – Press Freedom and media capture’. Academics from across the globe presented their work and, shared it with fellow academics, journalists, policy-makers, legal specialists and other relevant groups through an interactive, online platform. Sub themes included: safety of women journalists, local politics and the safety of journalists and safety of journalists in challenging environments.

The JSRN was launched during the World Press Freedom Day celebrations in Helsinki in 2016 and is hosted by the Centre for Freedom of the Media (CFOM) at the University of Sheffield. With the support of UNESCO, the JSRN aims to advance academic research and multi-stakeholder collaboration in the area of journalism safety.
