International Journalism Week (IJW) 2020 was postponed until 2021. In 2021, CFOM and the Department of Journalism Studies ran two IJW’s, the first 2021.1 was online from 22-26 March. The theme was Media Freedom and Social Justice. The theme brought together two major concerns. The first, and one that CFOM focuses on, is safety of journalists and the role they play in holding power to account. The second concern, social justice, related to equality and diversity in journalism practice, focusing on how journalists cover race protests, racist stereotypes in the news, and a lack of equality and diversity among journalists following the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020.
