As part of World Press Freedom Day 2023, CFOM was involved in the co-hosting of two evenets in London and New York. The first event was the academic conference that took place in two parts. The first part was the online academic conference on 27 April and featured speakers from all over the world talking about threats to freedom of expression. The second event was held at Global Freedom of Expression, Columbia University and featured three panel sessions. CFOM members UNESCO Chair in Media Freedom, Journalism Safety and the Issue of Impunity Professor Jackie Harrison, Dr Stef Pukallus and Dr Gemma Horton took part in the academic conference and also attended UNESCO’s World Press Freedom Day conference on 2 May at the UN General Assembly, New York
CFOM also co-hosted an event at the House of Lords with the Westminster United Nations Association. CFOM’s International Director, William Horsley, acted as a moderator for the event which held the theme: ‘Towards Press Freedom – New Hope or False Dawn?’
