The newest in a series of Reports by CFOM’s International Director William Horsley finds that the disturbing record of physical and legal attacks on media workers in many parts of Europe in the second half of 2012 spells severe challenge for the Council of Europe. ‘An effective programme of action is needed if the Council of Europe is to reverse the trend towards the stifling of genuinely free and independent media in significant parts of Europe’, he concludes.
